Special Session, Working Group Meeting, and High-Level Panel on Nature Based Solutions at the IAHR World Congress in Granada, Jun 19 - Jun 24, 2022

As a Lead Member of the Working Group on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR), Prof. Jochen Hack participates in the organization of the Special Session “Implementing Nature Based Solutions – bringing science to practice” at the IAHR World Congress 2022, June 19-24 2022 in Granada, Spain. The Session will focus on the science-policy-financing interface needed for the implementation of Nature Based Solutions in applied cases and the way that IAHR members can contribute to this:

  • How do we bring science to practice?
  • What scientific advances are needed and what can we learn from both successful and failure cases

On behalf of SEE-URBAN-WATER, there will be two presentations in this Special Session:

  • Advances in implementing and promoting Nature-based Solutions in urban areas – A real-world lab experience from Costa Rica, Prof. Jochen Hack
  • A combined legal-hydrological evaluation method for Green Infrastructure in urban Costa Rica, Conrad Schiffmann

Finally, there will also be a High-Level Panel “Nature-based Solutions and Ecohydraulics” which will discuss the following questions:

  • What is needed for upscaling NbS implementation?
  • What is the role of governments, financial institutions, science, NGOs and public in facilitating uptake of NbS?
  • How does the local context affect the easiness of upscaling implementation?
  • What can we learn from successful cases?
  • How can the IAHR-community contribute to this effort?

The Panel brings together experts from the different domains to discuss above questions in interaction with the audience.
